GRAYSON, KY (June 23, 2026) — FIVCO Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living will resume its weekend home-delivered meal program for seniors this December, made possible through an $18,750 grant from the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington. Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency, serving as fiscal sponsor, partnered with FIVCO to secure the funding. The program, suspended in July 2025 due to funding reductions, will run for six weekends beginning Dec. 20, serving 168 clients across four Northeast Kentucky counties.
The grant will fund 2,112 meals delivered through two existing FIVCO meal providers, Mom’s Meals and Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency, ensuring continuity and quality for clients already enrolled in the program. Each meal is designed to meet one-third of the daily recommended dietary allowance.
“Restoring weekend meal deliveries may seem like a small step, but for a homebound senior with no transportation and limited resources, it can mean the difference between eating and going hungry,” said Nicole Davis, director of FIVCO Area Agency on Aging & Independent Living. “We are grateful to the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington and Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency for making this possible and for recognizing that our most vulnerable neighbors deserve consistent, reliable support even on weekends and even in the coldest months of the year.”
The need for the restored service is well-documented. After weekend meal deliveries were discontinued, FIVCO surveyed its existing home-delivered meal clients and found that 37% had sought food from outside sources to compensate for the loss. While local food pantries, blessing boxes and donation sites can help fill gaps, those resources present significant barriers for seniors with limited mobility or no transportation, challenges that intensify during winter months when travel becomes more hazardous.
The six-weekend program will operate in four of the five counties FIVCO serves. By relying on established meal providers already familiar with clients’ needs and dietary requirements, FIVCO expects a smooth and immediate relaunch when the program begins Dec. 20.
